– A Note from Rob
It’s almost four weeks since we have been allowed to reopen and I’ve finally had a spare minute to let you know what we’ve been up to in lockdown and beyond at The Maynard.
Let me start off by saying hello. If we haven’t met before, I’m Rob Hattersley and I am the managing director here at The Maynard. I took over the place in late 2019, refurbished the much loved Maynard hotel, restaurant and wedding venue and opened in February 2020. We knew that tight timescales to get reopened in time would be a challenge but never in my wildest dreams did I, or the rest of the world, think a pandemic would be on the horizon.
Not to be beaten or deterred, we used the lockdown period to fast track some refurbishments that had been planned for later this year and next.
We have now refurbished all 10 of the original bedrooms to bring them in line with the new bridal suite and additional bedroom we created from a disused function room before opening. Both the toilets in the wedding space and the toilets in public areas have been modernised and we’ve totally transformed all of the outdoor spaces including the private wedding garden.
Lockdown allowed us to provide an exceptional takeaway service with themed menus each week which surprised and delighted local diners. Our takeaway service has continued with anyone shielding or those looking to enjoy delicious flavoursome food being able to do so at home. Highlights of our takeaway service in lockdown included making and delivering over 400 afternoon teas on the weekend that celebrated VE Day. We loved creating such a culinary celebration to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of WW2. (Even getting up at 5am in the morning to hand make our scones!)

We’ve been back open for almost four weeks and it has been wonderful to welcome an array of guests to The Maynard. From hotel guests looking for a luxurious and idyllic country escape to those dressed to the nines marking a belated celebration.
We’ve welcomed people for their first post-pandemic pint in our beer garden, fed weary walkers and their well behaved pooches and filled The Maynard with life and laughter. It has been glorious.
Talking of glorious, with the heatwave set to descend on the UK from this weekend, it is the perfect time to join us in our restaurant, bar or gardens and sample the intriguing and exciting flavoursome dishes that myself and head chef, Adrian, have worked hard to perfect.
Don’t forget – every Sunday we have live music for you from 2-4pm.
