Join Chef Greg Robinson at the Bakewell Country Festival!

Our very own head chef, Greg Robinson, will be a featured cooking superstar at the upcoming Bakewell Country Festival. On Sunday, July 14, 2024, Greg will take to the Culinary Theatre to share his passion for cooking and showcase one of The Maynard's most popular and colourful dishes – the Japanese Plate.

Taste the Best of The Maynard at Bakewell

If you've dined with us, you know that our Japanese Plate is a testament to culinary excellence, blending traditional Japanese flavours with innovative techniques. At the festival, you'll have the unique opportunity to watch Greg prepare this exquisite dish live. Even better, you'll get to sample it right there, making it a tasting experience you won't want to miss.

A Day Full of Excitement and Exploration

While the Culinary Theatre demonstrations are most definitely a highlight, the Bakewell Country Festival offers a wealth of activities and attractions for everyone. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect;

Culinary Theatre

Besides our head chef, Greg Robinson, the Culinary Theatre will host a variety of local chefs demonstrating their skills and using locally sourced ingredients. It's a fantastic opportunity to learn new recipes, pick up cooking tips, and appreciate the culinary talent right here in the Peak District.

Traditional Agricultural Displays

The festival celebrates Bakewell's rich farming heritage with sheep and heavy horse competitions. These events are really educational and even if you’re not massively into traditional agricultural practices, it’s highly recommended.

Entertainment and Family Activities

The festival promises fun for the whole family with loads to do.

  • Medieval Re-enactments. Step back in time and witness knights in combat, blacksmithing, and candle making.
  • Archery and Climbing. Test your skills and enjoy some physical activity with archery sessions and a climbing wall.
  • Bushcraft and Survival Skills. Participate in workshops to learn essential outdoor skills like fire lighting and spoon carving.
  • Slow Vintage Tractor Race. A fun and noisy spectacle where the slowest tractor wins.
  • Companion Dog Show. Enter your furry friend and support the local air ambulance.

Local Food and Drink

Indulge in a variety of local delicacies from numerous food vendors. Whether you're in the mood for street food or want to sample local brews, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Grab your food, pull up a hay bale, and enjoy the live music performances throughout the day. The festival closes at 5 pm so why not join us for Sunday Lunch at The Maynard after a busy day?

Conservation Corner

Learn about the incredible work of local conservation organisations dedicated to preserving the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Peak District.
