Exploring Rioja: A Journey Through One of the World’s Great Wine Regions
(Part of the Exploring Wine Series at The Maynard)
We’re excited to launch our new Exploring Wine Series, a collection of three tasting events featuring a delicious set menu designed to dive deep into iconic wine regions and styles from around the world. Each event stands alone, but together they form a journey of discovery, comparison and pure enjoyment.

The first stop on that journey is Rioja.
Why Rioja?
Rioja is one of the world’s most respected wine regions and for good reason. For generations, Rioja has perfected the art of fine winemaking, guided by strict standards, long-ageing traditions and an unwavering commitment to quality. The result is a region that has become a global benchmark for premium Spanish wine.
But Rioja is far more diverse than many people expect.
This is a region that produces fresh, vibrant whites, elegant rosés, and deeply expressive reds. You’ll find everything from youthful, fruit-driven wines made for immediate enjoyment to complex, structured bottles designed to age gracefully over many years. Differences in climate, soil, grape varieties, and winemaking approaches ensure that no two Riojas are quite the same.
Tradition Meets Innovation
What makes Rioja especially exciting today is its balance between history and creativity. Alongside centuries-old practices, modern techniques and fresh thinking are reshaping the region, producing wines that feel both timeless and thrillingly contemporary.
Each glass tells a story of place, passion and possibility.
Whether you’re tasting Rioja for the first time or rediscovering an old favourite, this event promises quality you can trust, variety you may not expect and a region that continues to surprise.
