There’s something rather special about an evening dedicated to good food, fine wine and the people who bring it all to life.
This November, The Maynard invites you to join us for our next Meet the Maker event, a Portuguese-inspired masterclass hosted by Hattersley Wines and the legendary Sandeman family.
Our Meet the Maker evenings have become a real highlight on the calendar, filled with laughter, stories and that unmistakable Maynard atmosphere that makes everyone feel like an occasion.
On Thursday 27th November from 7pm to 10pm, this is an evening for those who appreciate the finer things in life. Expect six exceptional wines, three beautifully crafted courses and a fascinating insight into Sandeman’s world of port and Portuguese wine, all for £50 per person.
A taste of Portugal in the Peak District
Guests will be welcomed with a Porto Tonic cocktail on arrival, setting the tone for what promises to be a flavour-filled evening.
Each course of your three-course meal will be perfectly paired with a selection of Sandeman’s finest wines and ports, carefully chosen to complement every dish.
Our host for the evening, Rui from the Sandeman family, will guide you through the story behind each glass, sharing generations of knowledge from one of Portugal’s most respected winemaking dynasties.
Whether you’re a long-time lover of port and wine, or simply curious to learn more, this is a night to savour and remember.

An elegant three-course feast
The menu has been designed to balance comfort and creativity with flavours inspired by the season and a touch of Maynard flair.
Starters
- Smoked haddock, prawns and mussel’s cataplana (GF)
- Wild mushroom & thyme arancini, roast peppers velouté, micro herbs (GF) (VE)
Mains
- Slow cooked beef shin with dauphinoise potato, sauté kale, roast carrots, pickled cabbage and gravy (GF)
- Roast spiced butternut squash & chestnut pithivier with maple carrots, braised red cabbage, fondant sweet potatoes, ginger purée and plant-based jus (VE) (GF)
Desserts
- Fig & almond tart with crème anglaise (V)
- Selection of cheeses with artisan biscuits, honeyed walnuts, grapes, celery sticks and quince chutney (GFa) (V)
Each course will be paired with one of the following wines from the evening’s line-up:

Please note that menu choices are required two weeks before the event and seating is at individual tables, so you’ll be dining with your own group.
